Equine Digestive Success Stories with GastroBuf

I have been keen on digestive management with my horses since 2007-2008, back when some vets still said that gastric ulcers didn’t exist in (non-competitive) horses. Over the years, I have battled both gastric ulcers and colonic ulcers in my horses and have witnessed many horses in my community struggling with the same issue. I have spent thousands of dollars testing the latest ‘product’ claiming to treat ulcers, but the results were spotty and inconsistent. I would retest with the SUCCEED Equine Fecal Blood Test™️ *. Still, they would come back with mixed results (positive gastric ulcer/negative colonic ulcer and visa-versa), and symptoms would remain.

I have had NO experience so far with any (non-drug) product that can change the SUCCEED FBT™️ to negative for hindgut/colonic ulcers. In 2017 I was offered a trial of Stance Equitec International’s GastroBuf, and FINALLY, I found something that has proven extremely valuable in my equine nutrition program!

Using the SUCCEED FBT™️ and Dr. Laura Taylor’s osteopathic evaluation, we found both foregut and hindgut ulcers in two of my horses in May 2017. We trialled another product with unsuccessful results for three months, and then in August of that year, I started using GastroBuf. Both my horses are now screening NEGATIVE for both foregut and hindgut ulcers!!! As you can imagine, I was so excited to get these results! My horses work as part of my Equine Assisted Learning team, so their well-being is even more critical.

Sage - A 16 Year Old Appendix Mare

Sage came to our farm in 2018 to be a part of our Equine Assisted Learning program. According to her previous owner, she was a retired eventing horse who was pastured/stalled for most of her life before she came to live with them. At the time of this treatment with GastroBuf, she lived on a small track system with one other horse on the side of a mountain. Sage benefited from a regular exercise during the ten years they had her; she was not ridden hard but mainly ponied. Winter riding consisted primarily of long in-hand walks/ponying every day. They did haul to riding trails in the riding session but no longer than 1 hour at a time.

Sage’s Symptoms:

  • Cinchy with a sensitive back/spine

  • Narcolepsy

  • Compact colic during heat cycle in the late fall and winter months

  • Heaves

Sage’s owner got the SUCCEED FBT™️ from Dr. Laura Taylor during an Osteopathic evaluation/treatment. The test came back as double-positive, which meant she likely had both stomach and colonic ulcers. She was immediately put on GastroBuf 20g morning and 20g night mixed with feed.

Week 5 on GastroBuf

Sage’s narcolepsy was no longer present and she had less attitude when saddled - the cinchy response was still present but not as intense, and the heaves were very mild.

She was retested with the SUCCEED Equine Fecal Blood Test™️ and this time it came back double negative!

Week 12 on GastroBuf

After 12 weeks they stopped feeding GastroBuf. Sage’s attitude under saddle was all gone. Reactive cinch response was gone and her back was good. She started to enjoy being groomed. Narcolepsy and heaves no longer present. SUCCEED FBT™️ still double negative!

Sage’s bloated gut completely vanished. In the past, she had looked pregnant. She very rarely lay down to rest or sleep, but after week five her owner started noticing shavings in her tail and mane in the morning. Over the weeks, they found her lying down during the daytime as well. She stopped falling asleep while being groomed/tacked and getting her feet trimmed. Her attitude improved significantly as well!
