WHY USE POWERMECTIN?
A Unique Chemical Compound:
Powermectin Oral Paste contains a potent antiparasitic agent that is neither a benzimidazole nor an organophosphate.
Powermectin is indicated for the treatment of the following parasitic infections in horses:
Large strongyles: adult and arterial stages of Strongylus vulgaris, and adult stage of S. edentatus, S. equinus and Triodontophorus spp.
Small strongyles (including those resistant to certain benzimidazole class compounds): adult and luminal larval (L4) stages of Cyathostomum spp., Cylicocyclus spp., Cylicostephanus spp.,Cylicodontophorus spp. Intestinal threadworms: adult stage of Strongyloides westeri. Pinworms: adults and luminal larval (L4) stages of Oxyuris equi.
Ascarids: adults and developing larval (L3, L4) stages of Parascaris equorum.
Hairworms: adult stage of Trichostrongylus axei. Large-mouth stomach worms: adult stage of Habronema muscae.
Neck threadworms: microfilariae of Onchocerca cervicalis.
Bots: oral and gastric stages of Gasterophilus intestinalis and G. nasalis.
Powermectin Oral Paste is also indicated as an aid in the clinical improvement of dermatoses caused by cutaneous larvae of Habronema spp., Draschia megastoma, and microfilariae of Onchocerca cervicalis. Note to user – Healing of “Summer sores” caused by Habronema spp. and Draschia megastoma and involving extensive tissue changes may require other appropriate therapy in conjunction with treatment with Powermectin Oral Paste. Reinfection, and measures for its prevention, should also be considered. Consult your veterinarian if the condition does not improve.
DOSAGE
This syringe contains sufficient paste to treat one 600 kg horse at the recommended dose rate of 200 μg ivermectin/kg body weight.
Each weight marking on the syringe plunger delivers enough paste to treat 100 kg body weight.
CAUTION
Some horses have experienced reactions with swelling and itching shortly after treatment. In most such cases, the horses have been diagnosed as carrying heavy infections of Onchocerca microfilariae, and it is assumed that the reactions were the results of microfilariae dying in large numbers. Although the signs have resolved spontaneously in a few days, symptomatic treatment may be advisable. Consult your veterinarian should these symptoms persist.
Reasonable care should be taken in the handling of sick or debilitated animals.
Powermectin Oral Paste has been formulated specifically for use in horses only. This product should not be used in other animal species as severe reactions, including fatalities in dogs, may result.
ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY: Studies indicate that when ivermectin comes in contact with the soil, it readily and tightly binds to the soil and becomes inactive. Drug containers and any residual contents should be disposed of safely (e.g., by burying or incinerating) as free ivermectin may adversely affect fish or certain waterborne organisms.
